A Cumming woman was hospitalized after being involved in a car accident with a Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office patrol car, according to the Georgia State Patrol. Although the deputy involved in the wreck was responding to a vehicle pursuit when the collision occurred, reports indicate that the patrol car crossed through an intersection against a red light, at which point it struck another vehicle and injured its driver. Patrol Car Crossed Intersection Against Red Light
According to Georgia State Patrol spokesperson Tracy Watson, the GA car accident took place at 8:51 p.m. on December 6, at the intersection of Buford Highway and Market Place Boulevard. The patrol car, driven by Sheriff’s Cpl. David Marsh of the Forsyth County Sheriff’s Office, was reportedly crossing south in the right lane of Market Place Boulevard against a red light, with his lights and sirens activated in response to a vehicle pursuit. At the same time, 52-year-old Sarah Beck was crossing the intersection in the right eastbound lane of Buford Highway with a green light, when the front of the patrol car struck the left side of her Toyota Camry.
Deputy May Have Been At Fault in Accident
In the aftermath of the car accident in Georgia, Tracy Watson of the GSP reported that the deputy’s patrol car had not properly cleared the right lane before traveling through the south of the intersection, leading to the collision with Sarah Beck’s Toyota Camry. Sheriff’s Cpl. Marsh was not injured in the GA car accident, nor was Sarah Beck’s passenger, 51-year-old George Beck, but Sarah Beck herself was transported to an area hospital with injuries. The Georgia car accident is still under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol, and it remains unclear if any charges will be filed in the collision.
